Eartune: a tuning application to help tune keyboard instruments by ear
This application is different from other tuning applications in that it does not do the listening for you but instead tells you what to listen for.

I am sometimes asked to tune harpsichords, clavichords and fortepianos for concerts, and the information provided to me may simply be a list of comma and/or cent values that I can “put into my tuning machine”. As I prefer to tune by ear, I needed a convenient way of turning those lists into a recipe of beats, and this is what first inspired me to create Eartune. I later added some extras like graphs and a virtual keyboard, which enable me to explore the various temperaments in more depth. I believe that Eartune could prove useful to other people, so I have decided to make it publicly available via this website.

Click on one of the buttons below to download the app. (This will open the download site in a new tab.) Installation instructions can be found in the accompanying README file.
(The MacOS version works only with Catalina 10.15.3 and later. Unfortunately, Apple made some changes in the way things are drawn on the screen that make apps that were made under Catalina 10.15.3 no longer compatible with earlier versions of OSX.)
